The Federal Skilled Worker Program is for Individuals with competent skills in a profession or occupation, who are interested in working and living in Canada permanently. Popular professions in this category include professions like IT Professionals, Engineers, Accountants, Sales and Marketing Specialists, Health Care Professionals and HR Professionals etc.

For eligibility, a minimum of 67 Points on a scale of 100 are required in the Six selection factors in this program:

  • Age
  • Level of Education
  • Work Experience
  • Valid Employment offer
  • English and /or French Language Skills
  • Adaptability

Eligibility in detail:

  • Your age must be over 18 years
  • You must have Post secondary school qualification to be eligible.
  • You must have at least a minimum of 1 year of paid full-time work experience in Canada or overseas (30 hrs a week or more) at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2016 National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  • A minimum of CLB 7 for 1 official language (English /French) and CLB 5 for second Language (English/French).
  • You get additional points for adaptability for any or all the following
    1. You have siblings who are PR or Citizens of Canada.
    2. You have at least 1 year of paid full-time work experience in Canada.
    3. You or your Spouse’s education in Canada
    4. Your Spouse’s Language Proficiency results
    5. Arranged Employment in Canada
  • Meet the minimum Funds requirement to prove that you can take care of yourself and your family and settle in Canada.

Once you meet the eligibility criteria, an express entry profile is created and you enter into comprehensive ranking system. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada invites highest CRS ranking applicants above a certain cut-off and issues approximately 3,500 Invitations for Permanent residency in each round of draw. Once Invitation to apply (ITA) is issued for permanent residence, 60 days are given to submit all the supporting documents along with the fees to IRCC. Further the application goes into processing for a decision on Permanent Residency.
